1. Allow events to change you, 2. Forget about good, 3. Process is more important than outcome, 4. Love your experiments. These are the first four of forty-three statements of Bruce Mau’s Incomplete Manifesto for growth written in 1998.
Bruce Mau (1959) is a Canadian designer who gained international recognition for innovative multidisciplinary work. He is a designer known for his intentions to provoke debate and discussion about graphic design in the contemporary world.
Now, more than a decade later, these statements have been transformed into On Going, a poster project. The posters were designed by fifty freshly graduated students from all over the Netherlands and displayed on an abstract translation of a poster column, bringing the manifesto to a visual peak.
On Going is initiated by GVD a group of young designers that became friends during their study. Against all expectations, this is NOT a design studio. In this format their craziest ideas come together, which result into refreshing new projects. These will not only challenge themselves but also designers alike to 11. Harvest ideas, 16. Collaborate and 38. Explore the other edge.
This project visualizes the shift in Dutch Design mentality by this new generation of graphic designers who turned to this clear and playful manifesto and provoke a debate, once again and 40. Avoid fields, 41. Laugh, 42. Remember and give 43. Power to the people.
